3DMETAL’S INJECTION MOLDING SERVICE FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Injection molding, an additive manufacturing technology
Additive Manufacturing technology is also used in the production of inserts and injection molds.
With this technology molds are made with internal cooling coils, in the most critical points, going to cool, through the passage of a fluid inside them. The realization of these channels would not be possible with traditional drilling or milling.
The advantages of injection molding
This has the advantage of dissipating heat instantaneously.
This has a number of advantages:
- Reduction in molding cycle time
- Increased productivity up to +50%.
- Excellent corrosion resistance thanks to the Corrax steel used for this sector
- Excellent stainless properties of the mold.
The molds for injection molding
ùThe molds used for injection molding are often very complex and expensive. This is why they must be made with a material that has unique characteristics for complex applications, with all the necessary precautions for refrigeration. It is therefore important to select specific steels for the various types of molds. They should have special cooling systems in the most critical points and in order to do that they are fabricated in additive manufacturing. The materials of the molds have several properties that are: strength and hardness, toughness, wear resistance, cleanliness, corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity.
The molds inserts already produced by 3D Metal are used for car parts, helmets, cell phones, watchmaking, eyewear and electronic device.
Hard work environments subject Corrax steel to great stress, corrosion, high temperatures and temperature changes, and wear and tear. These are just a few examples of the many challenges mold users face.
